  1. Hi Carolyn,
I accidently discovered your blog when looking at facebook and Theresa Rankin’s many responses to her announced move to Eng. I met Theresa in 2008 in CO. as we were both part of the Richard Schmid Auction. This A.M. I started to read your blog and enjoyed it very much. I would like to receive your email notifications of new material. Thank-you,

Hi! I’m Sue, and I’m from SlimKicker, a fitness/diet app and online website. I bumped into your blog a few days ago and it captured my interest!

I’m contacting you b/c we’re about to release a fitness tracker (similar to FitBit) early next year, and are looking for bloggers who would be interested in receiving 1 for free to review when it is out (negative or positive).

Would you be interested in doing this? You can email me at: sue (at) slimkicker (com) with ‘Review’ in the email heading if you are.

In case you don’t know, our online website SlimKicker basically turns your fitness/diet goals into a fun level-up game. The tracker will work in conjunction the website, and allow people to track calories burned and number of steps they walk automatically. The more they exercise, the more points they rack up! That’s basically how it will work.

Anyway, hope to hear back either way…

    – Sue

Hi Carolyn! I am a huge Gypsy/Mama Rose fan and am looking forward to your biography! I would like to ask at which library are the personal papers of Rose and when did you decided that you were going to write the biography? Thanks.

    • The papers are in the Performing Arts Library in New York City. I decided I’d write the biography on the day I first saw them and realized there was a whole other story there that nobody else had found. My publisher’s aiming for Mama Rose’s Turn to be released in November 2013.

Hello, I just read on Faridi, McFee’s passing . I met her in 1985 downtown NYC, as she was working a temp job. We talked alot during lunches and she gave me her Celebrate book. I was still going to college and loved art and poetry….. I just uncovered her book again and wondered whatever happened. A great spirit and one who showed such great love for life. She was such a gift and still i am inspired by just looking at the book.

  6. Hi Carolyn, a very nice article. The book you read about Mannix and Strickling et al wasn’t very well researched – it picked up a lot of old wive’s tales. The story about Gable isn’t true, nor is the story about Jean Harlow’s husband. The story about Gable – and if you want to talk well researched, this is it – http://www.snopes.com/movies/actors/gablecrash.asp – is fascinating reading. The Harlow story was debunked in the book “Harlow” by David Stenn. In order to understand both these incidents, the writers had to go all the way back to the original sources. It’s amazing to see how things were added over the years.

I discovered your blog today when I was searching for information about the deLeeuw family from the book The Upstairs Room. My 6th grade classes in Beatrice, Nebraska, have been reading this book for 20+ years. Your article about Rachel answered questions to which I have been searching for years. Thank you so much. Do you happen to know if Sini is still alive?
