Here’s a fascinating new book that I want to recommend: WILL POOLE’S ISLAND by Tim Weed.
If you like history, and especially if you are fascinated, as I am, by not only Colonial times but by seafaring on the one hand and Native American culture on the other, you will adore this book. This book combines all three – to perfection!
The author, Tim Weed, is the descendant of English immigrants who arrived on American shores in the 1600’s, as well as of Native Americans. He began to research both, and the result was WILL POOLE’S ISLAND.
As always, I don’t wish to include spoilers, so I won’t give anything away too much about the plot, but it’s a terrific “buddy story” that primarily concerns the title character and his friendship with Squamiset, a Native American. It is a time of culture clashes. Will and Squamiset come from different worlds, literally, so there’s a lot to be learned from this well-written and beautifully researched novel.
By the way, this book is also a direct tie-in with the legends of the first Thanksgiving, so there’s no better day to suggest it than today. Kudos to Tim Weed for writing such a winner, and Happy Thanksgiving, one and all!
Thanks for the recommendation. I love American history – any history really, but this sounds like something I’d love.
